Agartha Version 1
The Shortwicks are one of the 16 halfling clans that make up the Swiftfoot Nation. The Swiftfoot Nation is like no other. It has no physical geography and its population is constantly on the move. The nation consists of 16 different halfling clans that have grouped together and formed a kind of nomadic gypsy nation. The Shortwicks are known to be talented musicians and entertainers and even more talented as thieves and tricksters. Little is known about them and they typically try to stay on the move but being that there are only few towns in Agartha the Shortwicks attempt to keep pleasant relations with at least one faction in each town. It is said that the Shortwicks also possess a secret knowledge of a powerful form of illusionary magic that was supposedly lost thousands of years ago. They travel in decorated wagons called Vardos that are often enchanted to be able to do many different things and are commonly pulled by many different beasts. While some dislike the Shortwicks others welcome when they come to visit because they are excellent traders and often travel selling rare wares. Others like the Shortwicks because of their storytelling ability or for the entertainment they provide. The Shortwicks have yet to make it to Killarney since the Orc invasion but they worry that the new inhabitants will be less friendly. Currently there is a debate among the Shortwicks, about how to deal with the Orcs in Killarney and it has caused a recent rift that threatens to divide the clan.
Governance System: The Swiftfoot Nation relies on a Matriarchy based Council with each of the 16 families normally being ruled by the oldest or most powerful women in the family. This women acts as both the local ruler of the family and also as a representative to the Swiftfoot Nation Council. The Shortwicks are no different. it is guessed that the Shortwick family is the size of a town
